Industry veteran Dean Hutto began his career in the 12 Volt Industry in 1985 where he worked for Kenwood until 2004. He went on to work for SiriusXM from 2005-2014 until he was diagnosed with Interstitial Lung Disease: a condition that requires a lung transplant.

A Denver resident, Dean attended the M.E.S.A. Fall Summit’s Awards Dinner and Celebration to see old friends and colleagues. An hour into the event Dean received the phone call that he had been waiting on for 2 years. An emotional announcement by M.E.S.A. Executive Director Ryan Gunter was quickly made to the whole group that Dean was going to get the new lungs he needed to get healthy, and that he was getting them that night.  The group was kept up to date on how the surgery was progressing and continued to express their concern and support throughout Sunday’s meetings.

MESA Members and Vendors rally for Dean

The 2014 Fall Summit farewell party was set up to be a fun event as always, but this year a dunk tank was added to the mix.  Due to the recent circumstances with Dean’s operation, the night evolved into a “Get Dunked for Dean” style fundraiser where Members and Vendors took turns in the dunk tank to raise money for their long time friend and colleague.  In just 3 hours, 132 M.E.S.A Members and Vendor Partners collectively raised over $100,000 for the Hutto family.

An Update on Dean

Dean has been in high spirits after his successful lung transplant operation and is expected to make a full recovery.  The MESA Team paid Dean a visit this week and surprised him with a large check for all of the money raised for him during the MESA Fall Summit.
